Train & Fuel for what you want to do and how you want to perform, not how you want to look.
This is something that took me a while to understand.
There was a time in my life that I wanted to look a certain way, which meant training and eating a certain way.
I remember committing to a certain calorie intake, with absolutely no knowledge to inform that decision, and seeing the weight drop.
This was followed by many remarks of how great I look and how dedicated I am to train so much and to avoid certain foods / eat a certain way (we can get into that another time). And sure, that of course reinforced my eating and training habits.
Simultaneously, this led to a decrease in performance levels in my sport... but sure, I looked great :)
This went on for months. I was consistently striving for a caloric deficit, training as much as I possibly could, and wondering why I wasn't performing well...
I looked great... and felt like pure shite.
Fast forward to playing the handball championship that season, being bitterly disappointed, and being told by my mom that someone had mentioned a decrease in power and intensity in my performance.
This remark really made me think, "What am I doing here?".
I'm leaner and lighter than I've ever been, but at what cost?
I couldn't perform at my potential because of my eating and training habits.
So, remember, train & fuel for what you want to do, not how you want to look.
